Children’s Short Breaks & Family Support
-
Our Children’s Short Breaks and Family Support service provides planned, non-regulated support for children and young people.
The service is designed to give parents and carers time to rest, attend appointments, manage other responsibilities or simply have some breathing space, while the child or young person is safely engaged in agreed activities
-
This support may be suitable for families who need planned short breaks from caring responsibilities.
It may also be suitable for children and young people who would benefit from structured activities, community access, companionship, play-based engagement or supervised non-regulated support.
The support is arranged around the child or young person’s needs, interests, routines and agreed family circumstances.
-
Support may include:
Supervised play and activities
Community outings and recreational activities
Arts, crafts, games or structured engagement
Support to attend agreed activities or groups
Encouragement with confidence and social interaction
Short periods of planned support for families and carers
Support that gives parents and carers time to rest or manage other responsibilities

We begin by understanding the child or young person’s needs, interests, routines and any important family arrangements.
We agree the type of support required, where it will take place, how long support is needed and any safeguarding or communication arrangements that must be followed.
Our support is delivered in a respectful, safe and child-centred way, with clear boundaries, appropriate supervision and regular communication with parents or carers.
